Summary

A plastic film canister filled with water and alka-seltzer creates carbon dioxide gas, building pressure until the lid pops off and launches the canister like a rocket.

Procedure

  1. Put on safety glasses.
  2. Fill a plastic film canister about one-third full with water.
  3. Break an alka-seltzer tablet in half.
  4. Drop half a tablet into the canister and quickly snap the lid closed.
  5. Flip the canister upside down and place it on its lid in a tray.
  6. Step back and watch as the gas pressure builds until the rocket launches.
